Job description

Original text imported from Reed

With its white-glove, concierge level of client service, coupled with its highly prestigious client list comprising many of the sector’s most illustrious names, this global broker’s National Resources Practice feels more akin to that of a boutique practice.

Our client is enjoying a sustained period of organic growth, including the continued acquisition of quality accounts from across the sector, such as biomass, anaerobic digestion, wind and solar. As such, the need has arisen for a Corporate Account Executive to join the team in the North West. Here, you will be working in close conjunction with some of the most talented insurance professionals in the sector.

This role is a ‘servicing’ Account Executive position, with the focus very much on the management of an existing portfolio of clients – you will not be burdened with new business targets. Developing a deep understanding of your clients and the unique exposures that they face within their niches, you will ensure that their insurance programmes are robust and reflect an ever-changing risk landscape. Should any gaps in cover be established, you will work with specialist teams to create innovative solutions to mitigate these. You will be responsible for tasking a dedicated team of Corporate Brokers & Account Handlers to assist you in conducting renewal and marketing exercises, and preparing a variety of reports and management information.

As well as experienced Account Executives from the Energy, Renewable and Natural Resources field, we are keen to hear from middle-market and corporate Account Executives who can demonstrate a knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, these sectors. Equally, we welcome applications from Account Handlers and Underwriters who have professional exposure to such risks, who wish to transition to an Account Executive role.

You must be well-polished, with excellent communication skills – able to secure ‘buy-in’ from C-Suite individuals. You should also have first-rate internal-networking and stakeholder-management skills, in order to utilise the full suite of products and services on offer to clients.

In return, you will receive a generous basic salary and a market-leading flexible benefits package that can be tweaked to your own personal circumstances. For the ambitious, this role could lead to a myriad of opportunities for progression, both within this fast-growing division, as well as the in the wider company.

1Question

Tell me about a time you had to secure buy-in from a C-Suite executive for an insurance solution

When working with a wind farm operator, their CFO was reluctant to increase premiums for enhanced turbine coverage. I prepared a detailed risk analysis showing how extreme weather events had increased 40% over 3 years, presenting potential £2.1M exposure versus £18k additional premium. I scheduled a focused 30-minute presentation highlighting competitor claims data and regulatory changes. The CFO appreciated the data-driven approach and approved the enhanced coverage, which proved valuable when storm damage occurred 8 months later, with our solution covering £890k in repairs that would otherwise have been uninsured.
2Question

Describe a situation where you identified a gap in a client's insurance coverage

During a routine portfolio review for a biomass energy client, I noticed their policy excluded coverage for feedstock contamination risks. Given recent industry incidents involving contaminated wood pellets causing £1.4M in cleanup costs elsewhere, I flagged this as a critical gap. I researched specialist environmental insurers and worked with our underwriting team to design a £500k contamination extension. The client initially hesitated due to cost, but I demonstrated how one incident could exceed their annual profits. They accepted the coverage, and 14 months later, a contaminated shipment triggered a £180k claim that was fully covered.
