1Question

Tell me about a time you built a long-term partnership with a challenging customer

I was assigned a manufacturing client who had rejected three previous technical proposals due to cost concerns. I scheduled monthly site visits over 6 months to understand their production constraints and budget limitations. By collaborating with our engineering team, I developed a phased implementation approach that reduced initial costs by 35% while maintaining technical specifications. This approach secured a £180,000 contract and led to additional projects worth £320,000 over 18 months, transforming them into our second-largest client in the region.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to negotiate both technical and commercial aspects of a complex project

A automotive parts manufacturer required a custom engineering solution but had strict budget and timeline constraints. I worked with our technical team to identify three solution variants, then presented a detailed cost-benefit analysis showing how the mid-tier option would deliver 85% of the performance at 60% of the premium cost. Through careful negotiation, I secured technical approval from their engineering director while achieving a 12% margin improvement for our company. The £240,000 project was delivered 2 weeks ahead of schedule, leading to a framework agreement worth £480,000 annually.
