1Question

Describe a situation where a client's requirements changed mid-proposal. How did you handle it?

Situation: Midway through preparing a £95,000 HVAC proposal for an energy sector client, they revised their airflow specifications significantly, requiring a full redesign of the cost model. Task: I needed to update the proposal without missing the agreed submission deadline of 5 working days. Action: I immediately flagged the change to the internal engineering team, held a 30-minute technical review to agree revised parameters, and rebuilt the cost estimate using updated supplier pricing. I also added a change-log section to the proposal to give the client full transparency. Result: The revised proposal was submitted on time, the client awarded us the contract, and the project delivered £88,000 in revenue — within 8% of the original estimate.
2Question

Tell me about a time you worked closely with an internal engineering team to resolve a technical challenge on a sales project.

Situation: A wastewater client required a bespoke air movement unit with non-standard corrosion-resistant materials not covered by our standard product range. Task: I had to coordinate with the engineering team to assess feasibility and produce an accurate quotation without delaying the client's procurement timeline. Action: I organised a cross-functional meeting with 4 engineers, gathered material cost data from 3 suppliers within 48 hours, and co-authored a technical specification document that addressed the client's requirements in full. Result: The proposal was submitted 2 days ahead of the client's deadline, we won the order worth £42,000, and the solution became a template for 2 subsequent similar enquiries.
