1Question

Tell me about a challenging case where you helped a student overcome significant barriers

I worked with a 14-year-old student with severe anxiety who had been out of school for 8 months. The situation required immediate intervention as the family was considering home schooling. I conducted a comprehensive assessment over 3 sessions, identifying specific triggers and coping mechanisms. I then developed a graduated return plan with the school, starting with 2 hours per day. I provided weekly support sessions and liaised with teachers to implement reasonable adjustments. After 12 weeks, the student was attending full-time and achieved 85% attendance for the remainder of the term. The family reported significant improvement in the student's confidence and wellbeing.
2Question

How do you handle working independently without direct supervision?

In my previous locum role, I managed 18 cases across 4 different schools with minimal supervision. I established clear communication protocols, sending weekly progress reports to the lead psychologist and maintaining detailed case notes. I created a structured schedule, allocating specific days for assessments, report writing, and follow-up meetings. When I encountered a complex autism spectrum case, I proactively sought guidance from the HCPC professional network and attended a specialist training course. This approach resulted in completing all assessments within statutory timelines and receiving positive feedback from 92% of families involved.
