1Question

Tell me about a time you helped a child overcome a learning challenge

A 4-year-old in my Reception class was struggling with letter recognition and becoming frustrated during phonics sessions. I identified that he was a kinaesthetic learner who needed hands-on activities. I created tactile letter cards using sandpaper and introduced letter-tracing in sand trays during his preferred morning learning time. Within 3 weeks, he progressed from recognising 5 letters to 18 letters, and his confidence improved dramatically. His parents noticed the change at home too, reporting he was now excited to point out letters during bedtime stories.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to build a relationship with a difficult parent

A parent was consistently critical of our child-led learning approach, believing we weren't teaching enough formal academics to her 5-year-old. Rather than becoming defensive, I invited her to observe a morning session and explained how we were actually covering numeracy through our construction play and literacy through storytelling activities. I provided her with weekly learning journals showing her daughter's progress in key areas. After 4 weeks of regular communication and evidence sharing, she became one of our strongest advocates, even volunteering for school events and praising our EYFS approach to other parents.
