1Question

Tell me about a time you helped a child overcome a learning difficulty

A 5-year-old in my Reception class was struggling with number recognition and counting. I identified this during daily maths activities where he consistently confused numbers 6 and 9. I created a personalised intervention using multi-sensory approaches - tracing numbers in sand, using physical objects for counting, and incorporating his love of dinosaurs into number games. Over 6 weeks of 15-minute daily sessions, I tracked his progress using simple assessment sheets. By the end of the intervention, he could confidently recognise numbers 1-10 and count objects accurately, showing 85% improvement in his maths assessments.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to work closely with a class teacher

During a challenging term with 29 Reception pupils, the class teacher and I needed to restructure our approach to guided reading. We were seeing 40% of children falling behind expected levels. I suggested implementing a carousel system where I would take small groups of 4-5 pupils for intensive phonics support while she focused on the main lesson. We met weekly to plan activities and share observations. I created tracking sheets to monitor each child's progress across the 12-week programme. This collaborative approach resulted in 78% of pupils reaching age-related expectations by term end, compared to 52% at the start.
