1Question

Tell me about a time you adapted quickly to a new nursery environment

When I started a 3-week placement at Little Explorers Nursery, I discovered they used a different planning system and had 22 children compared to my previous 14-child setting. I spent my first morning observing their routines and asking the room leader about their approach to circle time and outdoor play. By day 2, I was confidently leading story sessions and had learned all the children's names. I adapted their creative activities to include more sensory elements, which increased participation from 60% to 85%. The manager offered me permanent hours after just 2 weeks, praising my quick integration and positive impact on the children's engagement levels.
2Question

Describe a challenging behaviour situation and how you handled it

During outdoor play, 4-year-old Jamie repeatedly threw sand at other children despite verbal warnings. I calmly removed him from the sandpit and sat with him away from the group. I acknowledged his frustration about sharing the diggers and explained how sand-throwing made friends sad. We practiced gentle sand play together for 5 minutes, then I gave him a special job as 'sand helper' to monitor safe play. This positive responsibility approach worked immediately - he became protective of the sand area and helped other children play appropriately. The technique reduced similar incidents by 80% over the following 2 weeks.
