Application advice

5 AI-generated recommendations to maximise your chances.

1

⭐ Lead your CV personal statement with sales target achievement — the advert explicitly prioritises 'results driven with experience of reaching sales targets and KPI' as the first requirement.

2

📊 Quantify your sales results wherever possible: e.g. 'Exceeded monthly sales targets by 22% for 8 consecutive months, contributing £180k to depot revenue'.

3

🎯 Highlight any CAD or design software experience (even basic) in your skills section — the advert lists CAD as preferred, so any exposure (e.g. Winner, ArtiCAD, SketchUp) will differentiate you from candidates with none.

4

🤝 Emphasise trade or B2B customer relationship experience — the advert repeatedly stresses building 'trusted relationships with trade customers', so cite specific trade sectors (builders, contractors) you have worked with.

5

🚗 Confirm your full UK driving licence and vehicle access clearly in your CV header or profile — this is a stated essential requirement for conducting home visits.

STAR answer examples

Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time you exceeded a sales target — what actions did you take to get there?

Situation: In my previous role at a trade building supplies company, our depot was 12% behind its quarterly revenue target with six weeks remaining. Task: As the lead sales consultant, I was responsible for closing the gap without discounting below agreed margin thresholds. Action: I audited my existing customer accounts, identified 15 dormant trade accounts that had not ordered in 90 days, and personally called each one with tailored product recommendations based on their order history. I also introduced a follow-up call within 48 hours of every quote. Result: I reactivated 9 of the 15 accounts, brought in £42,000 in additional orders, and finished the quarter 4% above target — the strongest performance across our regional group.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to build trust with a sceptical trade customer. How did you approach it?

Situation: A local building contractor visited our showroom having had a poor experience with a previous supplier — two kitchen orders had arrived with incorrect components, delaying two projects by three weeks. Task: I needed to persuade him to place a £14,000 kitchen order with us despite his understandable reluctance. Action: Rather than pushing for an immediate sale, I invited him to a product walkthrough, introduced him to our depot manager, and offered to personally oversee his first order from design to delivery confirmation. I followed up with a written summary of exactly what had been ordered and the delivery schedule. Result: He placed the order, it was delivered correctly and on time, and he became one of our top 10 trade accounts, spending over £60,000 in the following 12 months.
