STAR answer examples

Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time you provided exceptional customer care to a hearing-impaired patient

An elderly patient in Canterbury was struggling with her new hearing aids and becoming increasingly isolated. I scheduled three additional home visits over two weeks, spending extra time adjusting the settings and teaching her family how to help with maintenance. I also arranged for written instructions in large print and demonstrated cleaning techniques multiple times. By the third visit, she was confidently using her aids and had rejoined her local book club. Her daughter later wrote to thank our service, mentioning how much her mother's confidence had improved.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to work as part of a team to achieve a patient outcome

A complex patient required both hearing aid fitting and extensive wax removal before assessment could be completed. I coordinated with our microsuction specialist to schedule a joint visit, ensuring all equipment was available. During the appointment, I handled the initial consultation while my colleague performed the wax removal, then I conducted the hearing test and fitting. This teamwork approach meant the patient received complete care in one visit rather than multiple appointments, saving them considerable inconvenience and achieving a successful outcome in half the usual time.
