1Question

Tell me about a time you had to adapt quickly to an unfamiliar environment

I was called to cover a Year 9 Science class at a new school with only 20 minutes' notice. The regular teacher had left detailed plans, but when I arrived, I discovered the IT system was down and the planned digital resources were inaccessible. I quickly assessed the available materials and adapted the lesson to use physical worksheets and practical demonstrations instead. I engaged the 28 students by turning the technical difficulties into a learning opportunity, explaining how scientists adapt when equipment fails. The lesson ran smoothly, students remained engaged throughout, and the head of department praised my quick thinking and positive attitude in their feedback.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to manage challenging behaviour from secondary school students

During a Year 10 English cover lesson, three students became disruptive, talking loudly and distracting others from their creative writing task. I implemented the school's behaviour policy by first giving clear warnings, then moved the students to separate seats when the disruption continued. I engaged them by asking about their writing progress and offering individual support, which redirected their energy positively. I documented the incident and spoke with their form tutor at break. The students completed their work successfully, and the class teacher later thanked me for maintaining the learning environment while following school procedures appropriately.
