1Question

Describe a time when you had to quickly adapt to a new environment or situation

When I started supply work, I was called to cover a Year 9 science class at 8am with no prior notice. The regular teacher was absent and I had 30 minutes to review unfamiliar lesson plans about chemical reactions. I quickly familiarised myself with the practical experiment setup, identified potential safety concerns, and adapted the delivery method to ensure student understanding. I introduced myself confidently, established clear expectations, and successfully delivered the lesson with 28 students completing their experiments safely. The feedback from the head of department was positive, noting that students remained engaged and on-task throughout.
2Question

Tell me about a challenging behaviour management situation and how you handled it

During a Year 10 maths lesson, two students began disrupting the class by talking loudly and refusing to engage with the worksheet. I calmly approached their table, used the school's behaviour policy steps, and gave them a clear choice between participating or facing consequences. When they continued disrupting, I moved one student to an isolated desk and contacted the on-call teacher for the other. I maintained focus on the remaining 26 students, ensuring the lesson continued productively. Later, I provided detailed feedback to the regular teacher about the incident and the strategies that worked with the rest of the class.
