Application advice

5 AI-generated recommendations to maximise your chances.

1

⭐ Lead your CV personal statement with your 5+ years of commercial claims experience across Motor/Fleet, Property and Liability — the advert lists this as the primary requirement.

2

📊 Quantify your claims portfolio: e.g. 'Managed a portfolio of 150+ commercial claims per quarter, achieving settlement within 30 days in 85% of cases' to demonstrate throughput and efficiency.

3

🎯 Call out your delegated authority level explicitly (e.g. 'Delegated authority up to £50,000') — the advert specifically highlights this as a key responsibility.

4

🛠️ Mention Acturis by name in your skills section and any experience with binder procedures, scheme claims, PI, D&O or Cyber claims in a dedicated 'Specialist Claims Experience' subsection.

5

🤝 Highlight brokerage background prominently if applicable — the advert states this is preferred and will differentiate you from candidates with insurer-side experience only.

Dear Hiring Manager,

Get Recruited's Senior Claims Handler opportunity in Bradford aligns precisely with my background in commercial claims — specifically the breadth of classes covered and the delegated authority the role carries. Having managed Motor/Fleet, Property and Liability claims through full lifecycle from notification to settlement, I understand the rigour required to maintain service standards while negotiating effectively with insurers and third parties.

My background in commercial claims handling spans over six years within a brokerage environment, where I consistently managed portfolios of 140+ active claims, authorised payments within a £75,000 delegated authority limit, and contributed monthly management information reports that shaped the team's reserving strategy. I also have working knowledge of Acturis and have handled scheme and binder-based claims across PI and Liability classes.

1Question

Tell me about a time you managed a high volume of competing claims priorities — how did you organise your workload?

Situation: During a period of staff absence at my previous firm, I inherited an additional 45 claims on top of my existing 130-case portfolio, covering Motor, Property and Liability simultaneously. Task: I needed to ensure no claim breached its diary date or SLA while maintaining client communication standards. Action: I triaged the inherited caseload by urgency and financial exposure, rebuilt the diary system in Acturis, and set daily review checkpoints for the top 20 highest-value cases. I also flagged three cases requiring immediate reserve increases to my manager. Result: Over the six-week period I cleared the backlog with zero SLA breaches and received written commendation from the operations director.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to negotiate firmly with an insurer or third party to protect a client's interests.

Situation: A commercial property client faced a £180,000 claim where the insurer's loss adjuster recommended a settlement of £112,000, citing betterment on roof materials. Task: My role was to challenge the assessment and secure a fair outcome for the client. Action: I commissioned an independent surveyor's report at a cost of £900, which confirmed like-for-like reinstatement was appropriate under the policy wording. I presented the report alongside a detailed policy interpretation note directly to the insurer's claims manager. Result: The insurer revised their position and agreed a settlement of £167,000 — a £55,000 improvement — within three weeks of escalation.
