1Question

Tell me about a time you mentored a junior solicitor through a complex case

When a newly qualified solicitor joined our team, I was assigned to mentor them through their first major product liability case involving a £340,000 property damage claim. The situation required careful guidance as the case involved complex policy coverage issues and multiple third parties. I structured weekly one-to-one sessions, reviewed their case preparation, and accompanied them to client meetings. I also created a step-by-step framework for handling subrogated recovery procedures. As a result, they successfully resolved the case within 14 months, securing full recovery for our client, and their confidence grew significantly. They now handle similar cases independently and recently thanked me for the structured approach that helped them develop their technical skills.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to manage competing deadlines across multiple high-value cases

I faced a challenging period when three major property damage cases all required urgent attention within the same two-week window, with a combined value of £2.1M. The first involved a product liability claim with a court deadline, the second required immediate policy coverage analysis for a commercial client, and the third needed subrogated recovery proceedings to be filed. I prioritised by assessing legal deadlines first, then client impact. I delegated research tasks to junior colleagues while maintaining oversight, worked extended hours on the court submission, and negotiated a 48-hour extension on the policy analysis. All three cases were completed successfully within the required timeframes, and I implemented a new case tracking system to prevent similar deadline conflicts in future.
