Application advice

5 AI-generated recommendations to maximise your chances.

1

⭐ Lead your CV personal statement with your book of business size and commercial lines specialism — the advert explicitly prioritises candidates with an existing book or strong pipeline.

2

📊 Quantify your portfolio: e.g. 'Managed a £2.3M GWP commercial book across 85 SME clients, achieving 94% retention over 3 years' to directly address the book-size-dependent salary structure.

3

🎯 Highlight experience across specific commercial lines classes (e.g. liability, property, fleet, professional indemnity) as the advert references general commercial lines and specialist schemes — name the classes you've worked in.

4

🤝 Showcase any existing banking or referral partnerships in your work history — the role is built around warm leads via banking relationships, so demonstrable experience with similar referral channels is a strong differentiator.

5

🌐 Include a dedicated 'New Business Generated' metric for each role — e.g. '£450k new business written in FY2023' — as new business generation and client development are core requirements listed in the advert.

Letter preview — tailored to Get Recruited (UK) Ltd

Dear Hiring Manager,

Building and retaining a commercial book through genuine client relationships — not just inherited accounts — is what defines my approach as an Account Executive, which is why the Commercial Account Executive opportunity at Get Recruited (UK) Ltd's Chester brokerage immediately stood out. The combination of access to warm leads via established banking partnerships and in-house underwriting support is precisely the infrastructure I've been looking to leverage at my next firm.

My background in commercial insurance broking spans general commercial lines across SME and mid-market clients, with a consistent track record of new business generation and strong retention rates. I have hands-on experience collaborating with underwriting teams to structure bespoke placements and have developed referral pipelines that mirror the banking partnership model described in this role. I am confident in operating independently while working closely with specialist colleagues to deliver the right outcome for each client.

1Question

Tell me about a time you successfully moved a significant book of business to a new brokerage — what were the key challenges?

Situation: I joined a regional brokerage in 2021 and needed to transfer a £1.8M GWP commercial book from my previous employer within a 90-day notice period. Task: My goal was to retain as many clients as possible while managing insurer relationships and ensuring no gaps in cover during the transition. Action: I personally contacted each of my 72 clients within the first two weeks, held face-to-face meetings with the top 20 by premium, and worked with the new brokerage's underwriting team to secure like-for-like or improved terms. I also prepared a detailed handover pack for each account. Result: I retained 88% of the book by GWP within the first renewal cycle, representing approximately £1.58M, and wrote £210k in new business from client referrals in the same period.
2Question

Describe a situation where a key client was at risk of leaving — how did you retain them and what did you learn?

Situation: In early 2023, a manufacturing client representing £95k annual premium informed me they had received a significantly cheaper quote from a direct insurer. Task: I needed to demonstrate the value of our broking service and find a competitive solution without simply matching price. Action: I arranged an urgent review meeting, audited their existing programme, and identified two material underinsurance gaps in their property and employers' liability covers. I then approached three specialist markets and secured a restructured programme that was £6,200 cheaper annually while improving their limits. Result: The client renewed and subsequently referred two further manufacturing businesses to me, generating an additional £42k GWP. The experience reinforced the importance of proactive annual reviews rather than waiting for renewal triggers.
