Application advice

5 AI-generated recommendations to maximise your chances.

1

⭐ Place your Class 2 licence and Driver CPC card details prominently at the top of your CV under a 'Licences & Certifications' section, as these are the two non-negotiable requirements stated in the advert.

2

📊 Quantify your multi-drop experience: e.g. 'Completed 18-22 drops per shift across central Scotland, maintaining 97% on-time delivery rate' — the advert specifically lists multi-drop as a preferred skill.

3

🌐 Highlight any experience with temperature-controlled or chilled/frozen food deliveries, as the advert flags this as preferred for the Booker Retail Partners site in Belvedere.

4

🎯 Mention handball and caged goods handling explicitly in your work history, as the advert stresses the physical, manual nature of the role including adverse weather conditions.

5

Letter preview — tailored to Tesco

Dear Hiring Manager,

Tesco Booker's Class 2 Driver vacancy at the Belvedere Retail Partners site is a strong match for my current skill set. I hold a valid Class 2 licence and an up-to-date Driver CPC card, and I have built solid experience in multi-drop delivery across retail supply chains, including handball and caged goods handling in all weather conditions.

My background in HGV driving includes completing up to 20 drops per shift for a regional food wholesaler, maintaining tachograph compliance and conducting daily vehicle safety checks without exception. I am comfortable with temperature-controlled loads and have regularly managed backhaul collections on return legs to depot, keeping paperwork accurate throughout.

STAR answer examples

Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time you had to complete a physically demanding shift in difficult weather conditions — how did you manage it?

Situation: During a January cold snap, I was assigned a 20-drop route delivering chilled goods across Edinburgh, with heavy snow forecast from midday. Task: I needed to complete all deliveries safely and on time without putting myself or other road users at risk. Action: I started my walkaround check 15 minutes early, fitted snow socks to the drive axle, and re-sequenced my drop order to prioritise the furthest points before conditions worsened. I kept the depot updated every two hours via radio. Result: I completed 18 of 20 drops before the heaviest snow hit, the remaining 2 were rescheduled by the depot, and I returned the vehicle with zero incidents or damage reported.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to deal with a difficult or unhappy retailer during a delivery. How did you handle it?

Situation: A convenience store owner in Glasgow refused a delivery of 3 cages, claiming 2 items were missing from the manifest — this was the third time in a month he had raised a dispute. Task: I needed to resolve the issue on the doorstep, keep the route moving, and protect the company from an unjustified short-delivery claim. Action: I calmly walked through the cage contents with the retailer against the printed manifest, photographed the load, and contacted the depot supervisor directly so the discrepancy could be logged in real time. Result: The supervisor confirmed the load had left the depot complete; the retailer accepted the delivery after reviewing the depot's packing scan records, and no credit note was raised.
