Application advice

5 AI-generated recommendations to maximise your chances.

1

⭐ Place your Cat C / Class 2 licence and CPC status prominently in your CV header or personal statement — the advert lists these as the first hard requirements.

2

📊 Quantify your driving experience: e.g. 'Completed 25+ daily drops across a 60-mile radius with zero delivery failures over 18 months' to stand out against other applicants.

3

🎯 Highlight any wholesale, food & drink, or FMCG delivery background specifically — Booker serves independent retailers and caterers, so sector familiarity is a differentiator.

4

🤝 Include a line about customer relationship-building in your work history, as the advert explicitly mentions 'building relationships with regular customers' as a key part of the role.

5

📋 Mention accuracy in paperwork and delivery documentation in your skills section — the advert calls this out as a direct responsibility and it signals attention to detail without using the phrase.

STAR answer examples

Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time you had to deal with a difficult or unhappy customer during a delivery.

Situation: On a regular wholesale route, I arrived at a small independent café to find the owner frustrated because two items on the order were missing due to a picking error at the depot. Task: I needed to resolve the issue quickly without escalating the complaint or leaving the customer short for their lunch service. Action: I apologised clearly, confirmed the missing items on the delivery note, contacted the depot immediately to arrange a same-day partial re-delivery, and offered the customer a direct contact number for the branch manager. Result: The re-delivery arrived within two hours, the customer kept the account open, and they specifically mentioned my response when leaving positive feedback to the branch — which was shared in the team briefing the following week.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to manage a heavy workload of drops in a single shift — how did you prioritise?

Situation: A colleague called in sick on a busy Monday, leaving me to cover 28 drops instead of my usual 18 across a wider area of Lancashire. Task: I had to complete all deliveries within the agreed time windows without compromising accuracy or customer experience. Action: I re-sequenced the route using my knowledge of the area to cluster nearby stops, prioritised the three customers with the earliest opening times, and called ahead to two customers to agree a slightly later window. I also skipped my full lunch break and took two shorter breaks instead. Result: I completed 26 of the 28 drops within the original time windows, with the remaining two delivered within 25 minutes of their window — zero complaints were raised and the branch manager acknowledged the effort in the weekly team update.
