Letter preview — tailored to Tesco

Dear Hiring Manager,

Booker's Class 2 Delivery Driver role in Glasgow aligns directly with my background in Cat C vehicle operation and customer-facing delivery work. With over two years of delivery driving experience and a current Class 2 licence, I am well placed to support Booker's wholesale distribution operation — ensuring independent retailers and caterers receive their stock accurately and on time.

My background in delivery driving includes managing multi-drop routes across local areas, completing POD paperwork to a high standard, and building positive relationships with regular customers. I am comfortable with manual loading and unloading of heavy stock and have consistently maintained strong punctuality and safety records across 7-day rotas including weekend shifts.

STAR answer examples

Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time you had to deal with a difficult customer during a delivery and how you resolved it.

Situation: A regular catering customer in Glasgow refused a delivery, claiming three cases of stock were missing from the manifest. Task: I needed to resolve the dispute on the spot without delaying the remaining six drops on my route. Action: I calmly reviewed the signed manifest with the customer, cross-referenced the load sheet, and identified that the three cases had been loaded onto a separate pallet marked for a different branch. I contacted the depot immediately and arranged a same-day re-delivery for two of the cases and a credit note for the third. Result: The customer accepted the resolution, remained on the account, and I completed the remaining drops within the scheduled window.
2Question

Describe a situation where you were running behind schedule on a delivery route — what did you do?

Situation: A road closure on the M8 added 40 minutes to my morning route, putting four customer drops at risk of being late. Task: I had to reprioritise without missing any deliveries or breaching customer time windows. Action: I contacted the depot controller straight away, flagged the delay, and re-sequenced my remaining drops by proximity rather than the original order. I also called ahead to two time-sensitive customers to manage their expectations. Result: All four deliveries were completed within 15 minutes of the agreed windows, no complaints were raised, and the depot supervisor noted my proactive communication in my end-of-week debrief.
