1Question

Tell me about a time you showed compassion to someone in your care

When caring for an 82-year-old resident with dementia, I noticed she became distressed every evening around 6pm, repeatedly asking for her late husband. Rather than simply redirecting her, I sat with her for 30 minutes each evening, looking through her photo album and listening to stories about their 50-year marriage. This compassionate approach reduced her evening anxiety episodes from daily occurrences to just twice weekly, and her family commented on how much calmer she seemed during their visits.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to communicate difficult news to a family member

A resident's daughter was concerned about her father's declining mobility after a fall. I arranged a private meeting to explain his care plan changes, including increased assistance with walking and new physiotherapy sessions. I used clear, non-medical language to explain the situation, provided written information about his progress, and scheduled weekly update calls. The daughter appreciated the transparent communication and felt more confident about her father's care, later praising our team's approach in a feedback survey.
