1Question

Tell me about a time when you showed compassion to someone in your care

During my previous role, I cared for an elderly gentleman who became withdrawn after his wife's passing. I noticed he wasn't eating properly and seemed isolated. I took time to sit with him during meals, listening to stories about his late wife and encouraging him to share memories. I also arranged for his favourite music to be played during activities. Over 3 weeks, his appetite improved and he began participating in group activities again. His daughter later thanked me, saying it was the first time she'd seen him smile in months. This reinforced how small acts of compassion can have profound impacts on someone's wellbeing.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to communicate difficult information to a resident or family member

A resident's mobility had declined significantly, requiring increased support with daily activities. I needed to discuss this change with both the resident and her son during a care review. I chose a quiet, private setting and spoke gently but clearly about the changes we'd observed. I explained how we could adapt her care plan to maintain her independence where possible while ensuring safety. I listened to their concerns and answered questions honestly. The son initially felt upset, but appreciated my direct yet sensitive approach. We worked together to adjust the care plan, and the resident felt more secure knowing we were monitoring her needs closely.
