1Question

Tell me about a time when you went above and beyond for a resident's wellbeing

An elderly resident with dementia was becoming increasingly distressed during mealtimes, refusing to eat and becoming agitated. I noticed she responded well to music from her era, so I researched her favourite songs from the 1950s. I started playing these quietly during her meals and sat with her, singing along softly. Within a week, her food intake improved by 80% and she began looking forward to mealtimes. The family was delighted when they visited and saw her smiling and eating well. This experience taught me that personalised care approaches can transform a resident's quality of life.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to show compassion during a difficult moment with a resident

A 92-year-old resident received news that her last remaining sibling had passed away. She became inconsolable and refused to leave her room for 3 days. I spent extra time with her each shift, listening to stories about her sister and looking through old photographs together. I arranged for her to have a quiet memorial moment in the garden with her favourite flowers. I also coordinated with the kitchen to prepare her sister's favourite cake recipe. After a week of gentle support, she began joining group activities again and thanked me for helping her through the grieving process with dignity.
