1Question

Tell me about a time you showed compassion to someone in your care

When caring for an 82-year-old resident with advanced dementia, I noticed she became distressed every evening around 6pm. Rather than following the standard approach of redirecting her attention, I sat with her and discovered she was worried about collecting her children from school. I created a photo album of her family and spent 20 minutes each evening looking through it with her, explaining that her children were now grown up and safe. This routine reduced her evening anxiety episodes from daily occurrences to just twice weekly, and her family commented on how much calmer she seemed during visits.
2Question

Give an example of when you went above and beyond for someone you were caring for

A 78-year-old resident was feeling isolated as his family lived abroad and couldn't visit during lockdown. I noticed he mentioned missing his weekly chess games at the local club. I researched online chess platforms and spent my break time teaching him how to play virtually on a tablet. I also coordinated with his son in Australia to set up regular online chess matches. Within 3 weeks, he was playing chess twice weekly with his son and had joined an online seniors' chess group, significantly improving his mood and engagement with other activities.
