1Question

Tell me about a time you showed compassion to someone in your care

An 84-year-old resident, Mrs Thompson, was struggling with the recent loss of her husband and refused to eat meals or engage with activities. I recognised she needed extra emotional support beyond her care plan. I spent additional one-to-one time with her each morning, listening to stories about her late husband and looking through photo albums together. I also coordinated with the kitchen to prepare her husband's favourite biscuits, which reminded her of happy memories. Over three weeks, Mrs Thompson gradually returned to eating regular meals and began participating in group activities again. Her daughter later thanked me, saying it was the first time her mother had smiled in months.
2Question

Give an example of when you went above and beyond for a resident

Mr Davies, a 78-year-old resident with dementia, became increasingly agitated during evening care routines, making it difficult for the night shift team. I noticed he often mentioned his garden and seemed calmer when discussing plants. I researched his background and discovered he had been a keen gardener for 40 years. I created a small indoor herb garden in his room with basil and mint plants, and incorporated gardening activities into his care plan. I also arranged for him to help tend the care home's garden twice weekly. Within two weeks, his evening agitation reduced by 80%, and he became one of our most settled residents. The approach was later adopted for other residents with similar backgrounds.
