1Question

Tell me about a time when you provided compassionate care to someone who was distressed

An elderly resident with dementia became extremely agitated during dinner time, refusing to eat and becoming upset. I recognised she was confused about her surroundings and gently sat beside her, speaking calmly and offering reassurance. I discovered she was worried about her late husband and spent 15 minutes listening to her memories about him. By validating her feelings and providing emotional support, she became calm and comfortable enough to eat her meal. This approach helped her feel secure and maintained her dignity during a vulnerable moment.
2Question

Give an example of when you went above and beyond for someone in your care

A resident was feeling isolated as his family lived abroad and rarely visited. I noticed he enjoyed talking about his career as a teacher, so I arranged for him to help a colleague's daughter with her homework during visits. I coordinated with the family and care team to make this happen twice weekly. Over 6 weeks, his mood improved significantly, and he felt valued and purposeful again. The family was delighted to see him engaged, and it demonstrated how small gestures can make a huge difference to someone's wellbeing.
