Application advice

5 AI-generated recommendations to maximise your chances.

1

⭐ Lead your Personal Statement with explicit eCommerce fulfilment and logistics sales experience — the advert names these as the core focus of the role.

2

📊 Quantify your new business wins: e.g. "Generated £420k in new B2B contracts across 18 months, targeting health and beauty brands", as the company is targeting doubled turnover.

3

🎯 Name the verticals you have sold into — beverages, supplements, personal care — in your CV's experience section to match the advert's sector-specific language.

4

🌐 Highlight CRM usage explicitly (tool name and how you used it for pipeline tracking), as the advert calls out CRM and metrics management as a key responsibility.

5

🤝 Demonstrate self-directed prospecting in your bullet points — the advert stresses little or no supervision, so show evidence of independently building and converting your own pipeline.

Letter preview — tailored to Wallace Hind Selection

Dear Hiring Manager,

A logistics company targeting doubled turnover through new eCommerce fulfilment business is precisely the environment where I perform best — which is why the Business Development Manager role at Wallace Hind Selection's client immediately caught my attention. My track record in B2B new business sales, combined with hands-on CRM pipeline management and experience engaging senior decision-makers in the health and beauty and beverages sectors, aligns directly with what you need.

My background in sales and logistics means I understand both the commercial and operational realities of fulfilment, contract packing and distribution. I have consistently built pipelines from scratch across defined verticals, managing my own prospecting activity with little supervision and converting opportunities through to signed contracts. I am comfortable market mapping new sectors and developing targeted sales strategies to penetrate them efficiently.

STAR answer examples

Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time you won a significant new business account entirely through your own prospecting efforts.

Situation: My previous employer had no presence in the personal care sector despite our fulfilment capabilities being well-suited to it. Task: I was tasked with identifying and converting at least two new accounts in that vertical within 12 months. Action: I built a target list of 40 brands using LinkedIn and trade directories, ran a structured cold outreach sequence, and secured eight face-to-face meetings over three months. I tailored each proposal to the brand's specific SKU volumes and seasonal peaks. Result: I closed two contracts within nine months — one worth £95k annually and one worth £62k — and both clients renewed in year two, contributing £157k in recurring revenue.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to manage your own diary and pipeline with minimal management oversight — how did you stay on track?

Situation: After a restructure at my previous company, our sales team of four was reduced to two, and my manager moved to a regional director role with limited day-to-day availability. Task: I needed to maintain a pipeline of 60 active prospects across two sectors without weekly check-ins. Action: I introduced a personal CRM discipline — logging every touchpoint, setting follow-up reminders and reviewing my pipeline every Monday morning against a weekly revenue target. I colour-coded deals by stage and flagged anything stalled beyond 21 days for a revised approach. Result: Over the following six months I hit 108% of my new business target and brought in three accounts that had previously gone cold.
