1Question

Tell me about a time you had to manage conflicting priorities in a warehouse environment

During peak season, we faced a situation where urgent customer orders conflicted with scheduled stock takes. I assessed both priorities and reorganised the 12-person team into two groups - 8 focused on urgent orders and 4 on stock verification. I implemented a rolling stock take system that allowed us to complete customer orders within 4 hours whilst maintaining inventory accuracy at 99.8%. This approach became our standard procedure for managing competing demands during busy periods.
2Question

Describe a situation where you improved warehouse procedures or working practices

I noticed our picking routes were inefficient, causing staff to walk unnecessary distances. I analysed movement patterns over 2 weeks and redesigned the warehouse layout, grouping fast-moving items closer to dispatch. I also introduced a zone-picking system where each operative covered specific areas. These changes reduced picking time by 22% and decreased staff fatigue complaints from 15 to 3 per month. The improved efficiency helped us handle 200 additional orders daily without extra staffing.
