My background in school administration includes supporting headteachers and school business managers with admissions, attendance records and payroll timesheets across a busy primary setting. I hold a valid Enhanced DBS certificate and have hands-on experience with school management information systems, including Arbor, ensuring accurate statutory returns and personnel records at all times.

1Question

Tell me about a time you managed multiple competing administrative priorities under time pressure — how did you decide what to tackle first?

Situation: During the autumn term at a 350-pupil primary school, the School Census deadline, a new staff induction and a parent open evening all fell within the same week. Task: I was the sole administrator on duty, responsible for all three workstreams simultaneously. Action: I mapped each task against its fixed deadline, completed the Census data validation first as it carried a statutory penalty for late submission, then prepared the induction pack the evening before, and delegated the open evening room setup to a teaching assistant I briefed in 20 minutes. Result: The Census was submitted two days early with no errors, the new staff member started smoothly, and the open evening ran without incident — the headteacher commended the week's organisation in the following staff briefing.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to handle a sensitive or confidential matter in a school or office environment. How did you manage it?

Situation: A parent arrived at the front office visibly distressed, requesting information about another child's attendance records, claiming a safeguarding concern. Task: I needed to handle the situation with empathy while strictly maintaining GDPR and safeguarding protocols. Action: I calmly acknowledged the parent's concern, explained that I could not share third-party pupil data, and immediately contacted the school's Designated Safeguarding Lead, who joined us within five minutes. I documented the conversation accurately in the school's safeguarding log the same day. Result: The DSL was able to investigate appropriately, the parent felt heard and supported, and the incident was resolved without any data breach or protocol failure. The headteacher later used the case as a positive example in a staff safeguarding refresher.
