1Question

Tell me about a time you worked with children who had different learning needs

When volunteering at a local youth centre, I worked with 8 children aged 7-11 during homework club sessions. Two children had dyslexia and struggled with reading tasks while others were advanced readers. I adapted my approach by creating visual aids and breaking down instructions into smaller steps for those who needed extra support, while providing extension activities for faster learners. I spent 10 minutes individually with each struggling reader, using phonics games and coloured overlays. By the end of the 6-week programme, both children with dyslexia showed improved confidence and were completing reading tasks 30% faster than when they started.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to build rapport with a reluctant child

During my sports coaching role, I encountered a 9-year-old who refused to participate in group activities and sat alone during sessions. Rather than forcing participation, I spent 5 minutes each week talking about his interests, discovering he loved football statistics. I incorporated football-themed counting games and used football analogies to explain other sports techniques. After 3 weeks, he began joining warm-up activities, and by week 6, he was actively participating in team games and even helping other children. His attendance improved from 60% to 95%, and his mother commented on his increased enthusiasm for physical activity at home.
