1Question

Tell me about a time when you had to coordinate multiple contractors on a project

During a heat exchanger replacement project worth £45k, I coordinated 3 contractors including mechanical, electrical, and insulation specialists. The challenge was that the mechanical work was 4 days behind schedule, threatening the electrical installation timeline. I organised daily progress meetings, restructured the work sequence to allow parallel activities where safe, and negotiated extended working hours with the mechanical contractor. I also prepared contingency plans for weekend work. As a result, we recovered 3 of the 4 lost days and completed commissioning only 1 day behind the original schedule, avoiding £8k in production losses.
2Question

Describe a situation where you identified and implemented a process improvement

I noticed that our pump maintenance schedule was causing unnecessary production interruptions, with 6 pumps being serviced individually over 6 weeks. I analysed the maintenance data and proposed a coordinated shutdown approach. I developed a new schedule grouping pumps by production line, allowing maintenance of 3 pumps simultaneously during planned 2-day shutdowns. I presented the proposal to operations management with cost-benefit analysis showing £12k annual savings. After approval, I coordinated with maintenance teams and suppliers to implement the new schedule, reducing production interruptions from 36 hours to 12 hours annually while maintaining equipment reliability at 98%.
