1Question

Describe a time you managed challenging behaviour in an unfamiliar classroom

During a long-term placement at a Year 4 class, I encountered a pupil with ADHD who was disrupting lessons by calling out and leaving his seat. I quickly established clear visual cues and implemented a reward chart system, consulting with the SENCO about his usual strategies. Within 3 days, his calling out reduced by 80% and he remained seated for 20-minute periods. The class teacher noted improved focus across the whole class, and the pupil's parents reported he was more positive about school.
2Question

How do you build rapport with pupils when you may only teach them for one day?

On a recent day supply at a Year 2 class, I arrived early to learn pupils' names and reviewed their current topic on minibeasts. I started with an interactive game using their names and interests, then connected the science lesson to their previous work. By break time, 25 pupils were actively participating and asking questions. The class teacher commented that behaviour was better than usual, and 3 pupils specifically asked when I would return to teach them again.
