1Question

Tell me about a time you managed challenging behaviour in your classroom

During a 6-week supply placement, I inherited a Year 4 class with 3 pupils displaying persistent disruptive behaviour. I implemented a positive behaviour system with clear visual cues and immediate rewards for good choices. Within 2 weeks, classroom disruptions decreased from 12 incidents per day to just 2. I worked closely with the SENCO to develop individual behaviour plans, which helped the most challenging pupil achieve 85% on-task behaviour by the end of my placement. The class teacher reported this was the most settled the class had been all term.
2Question

Describe how you've supported a pupil with SEN needs to achieve their goals

I worked with Jamie, a Year 5 pupil with autism who struggled with maths anxiety and would shut down during number work. I created a personalised visual timetable showing exactly when maths would occur and introduced fidget tools to help with self-regulation. I broke down problems into 3-step visual sequences and celebrated small wins with his preferred reward system. Over 8 weeks, Jamie's maths engagement improved from 20% to 75% of lesson time, and he successfully completed his first full worksheet independently, boosting his confidence significantly.
