1Question

Tell me about a time you dealt with challenging behaviour in the classroom

During my placement at Westfield Primary, I had a Year 1 pupil with ADHD who frequently disrupted lessons by calling out and leaving his seat. I implemented a visual behaviour chart with 15-minute intervals, giving him a sticker for each period of positive behaviour. I also created a quiet corner with sensory toys where he could self-regulate when feeling overwhelmed. Within 3 weeks, his disruptive incidents decreased by 80% and his academic engagement improved significantly, with other pupils also benefiting from the calmer classroom environment.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to adapt quickly to a new school environment

I was called to cover a Year 2 class at short notice when their teacher fell ill. Upon arrival, I discovered they were mid-way through a science topic on materials that I wasn't familiar with. I quickly reviewed their planning folder, spoke to the teaching assistant about the pupils' abilities, and identified 3 children with additional needs. I adapted the lesson to include hands-on experiments with everyday materials, ensuring differentiated worksheets for the SEN pupils. The day ran smoothly, and the head teacher praised my quick adaptation, leading to a 6-week placement at the school.
