1Question

Tell me about a time when you had to simplify a complex financial planning strategy for a client

A client with £1.2M in various pension schemes was confused about consolidation options ahead of retirement. The situation involved 6 different providers with varying charges and benefits. I conducted detailed analysis using Voyant to model different scenarios, then created a visual comparison showing potential savings of £18,000 over 10 years through selective consolidation. I presented this in a clear one-page summary with traffic light ratings for each option. The result was the client immediately understood the recommendations and proceeded with consolidating 4 schemes while retaining 2 with valuable guarantees, achieving the projected savings.
2Question

Describe a situation where you collaborated with advisers to deliver a holistic financial planning solution

A HNW client with £2.1M assets needed comprehensive estate planning before a business sale. I worked alongside 2 Chartered Financial Planners to analyse their existing arrangements using FE Analytics, identifying IHT exposure of £420,000. I prepared detailed cashflow models showing how trust structures and pension contributions could reduce this liability by 65%. During client meetings, I presented the technical analysis while advisers handled relationship management. The collaborative approach resulted in implementing a strategy saving £273,000 in potential IHT while maintaining the client's income requirements throughout retirement.
