1Question

Describe a time when your attention to detail prevented a quality issue

During a batch of 80 hydraulic valve housings, I noticed slight orange peel texture developing on the third component during my routine visual inspection. I immediately stopped production and discovered the spray gun pressure had drifted 2 PSI above specification due to a faulty regulator. I adjusted the pressure, re-sprayed the affected component, and implemented hourly pressure checks for the remainder of the batch. This prevented 77 components from requiring expensive rework, saving the company approximately £3,200 in materials and labour costs while maintaining our 48-hour delivery commitment to the client.
2Question

Tell me about a time you had to learn a new painting technique

When our facility introduced water-based 2K systems to replace solvent-based products, I needed to master completely different application techniques within 2 weeks. I studied the technical data sheets, practiced on test panels for 3 days, and worked closely with the paint supplier's technical representative. The key differences were spray pattern adjustments and flash-off times. I documented the new procedures and trained 4 colleagues on the technique. Within the deadline, I achieved consistent results matching our quality standards, and the new system reduced our VOC emissions by 60% while maintaining production throughput.
