1Question

Tell me about a time when you had to learn a new technical skill quickly

When I started my previous role, I needed to master spray gun techniques within 2 weeks to meet production targets. I dedicated 30 minutes each morning to practice sessions with my supervisor, studying coating thickness measurements and spray patterns. I also watched online tutorials during breaks and took detailed notes on pressure settings and paint viscosity. By week 3, I was achieving 95% quality standards and had reduced material waste by 20% compared to my initial attempts. This experience taught me the importance of structured learning and seeking guidance from experienced colleagues.
2Question

Describe a situation where attention to detail was crucial in your work

While preparing components for coating, I noticed inconsistent surface texture on a batch of 50 parts that had passed initial inspection. Rather than proceeding, I flagged this with my supervisor and discovered the shot blasting pressure had dropped by 15% due to equipment wear. We recalibrated the system and reprocessed the entire batch, which prevented coating adhesion failures that would have cost £2,400 in rework. This incident reinforced how small details in surface preparation directly impact final quality and customer satisfaction.
