Application advice

5 AI-generated recommendations to maximise your chances.

1

⭐ Lead your CV personal statement with sales target achievement — the advert explicitly lists 'results driven with experience of reaching sales targets and KPI' as its first requirement.

2

📊 Quantify your sales performance: e.g. 'Exceeded monthly sales targets by 22% for 8 consecutive months, contributing £180k in depot revenue'.

3

🎯 Mention any experience conducting home visits or client consultations — the advert specifically calls out 'conducting home visits to measure, assess and understand client needs' as a core duty.

4

🖥️ If you have CAD or kitchen design software experience (e.g. Winner, ArtiCAD, or similar), name it explicitly in your skills section even though the advert says training is provided — it will differentiate you immediately.

5

🤝 Highlight trade or B2B relationship management experience: the advert references 'trusted relationships with trade customers' multiple times, so frame any account management or repeat-client experience in those terms.

STAR answer examples

Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time you exceeded a sales target — what specific actions drove that result?

Situation: In Q3 at my previous trade showroom role, our depot was 14% behind the quarterly kitchen sales target with six weeks remaining. Task: As the lead designer on the floor, I took ownership of closing the gap without additional headcount. Action: I reviewed my open quote pipeline of 38 customers, prioritised the 12 most likely to convert, and booked follow-up home visits within the week. I also introduced a same-day CAD revision policy so customers could see design changes before leaving the depot. Result: We closed the quarter at 109% of target, and I personally accounted for £47k of the uplift. Three of those customers became repeat trade accounts the following quarter.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to negotiate a price with a trade customer while protecting your margin.

Situation: A returning builder client requested a 15% discount on a full kitchen package worth £8,200, threatening to move to a competitor. Task: I needed to retain the account without eroding the depot's margin below the 30% floor. Action: Rather than discounting the headline price, I restructured the specification — substituting two cabinet runs with an equivalent in-stock range, saving £600 in cost — and offered an extended payment window of 60 days. I presented the revised design the same afternoon using updated CAD visuals. Result: The client accepted the revised package at a 6% effective discount, preserving a 31% margin. He placed two further orders within three months totalling £14,500.
