1Question

Tell me about a time you helped a struggling student build confidence in English or Maths

I worked with a Year 10 student who was predicted a grade 3 in GCSE Maths and had completely lost confidence. I started by conducting diagnostic assessments to identify specific gaps in her understanding of fractions and percentages. Over 8 weeks of twice-weekly intervention sessions, I used visual aids and real-world examples to rebuild her foundation skills. I celebrated small wins and provided regular positive feedback. By the end of the programme, she had improved to a predicted grade 5 and volunteered to help other struggling students, showing her renewed confidence in the subject.
2Question

Describe how you've adapted your teaching style for different learning needs

During a KS3 English intervention programme, I had 6 students with varying needs including dyslexia, EAL, and low confidence. I adapted by using multi-sensory approaches - visual story maps for dyslexic students, vocabulary scaffolds for EAL learners, and peer support systems for confidence building. I also differentiated tasks within the same lesson, providing choice in how students demonstrated understanding. This flexible approach resulted in 83% of the group achieving their target levels, with particularly strong progress from the EAL students who gained 1.5 levels over the term.
