1Question

Tell me about a time you went the extra mile for a patient

An elderly patient in Boston was struggling with new bifocals I had prescribed during a home visit. Rather than wait for the next scheduled appointment in 6 weeks, I arranged an additional visit within 3 days to reassess and adjust the prescription. I spent 90 minutes with her, testing different lens options and ensuring she felt confident. The patient's daughter later called to say her mother's confidence had returned, and she was reading again for the first time in months. This extra effort resulted in a referral to 4 other family members who became regular patients.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to adapt your approach for a difficult customer

During a home visit in Grimsby, I encountered a patient with severe anxiety about eye examinations due to a previous traumatic experience. Initially, he refused the examination entirely. I adapted by first spending 20 minutes explaining each piece of equipment and letting him handle the tools. I broke the examination into shorter 5-minute segments with breaks, allowing him to remain in control. By the end, he completed the full examination and thanked me for my patience. He has since become one of my most cooperative patients and refers others regularly.
