STAR answer examples

Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time you dealt with a difficult customer during a delivery

Situation: I was delivering to a busy restaurant during their lunch prep when they claimed 3 cases of vegetables were missing from their order. Task: I needed to resolve this quickly without disrupting their service while maintaining good relations. Action: I immediately checked my delivery notes and vehicle, found the cases had been loaded but not unloaded, and apologised for the oversight. I also offered to prioritise their next delivery to rebuild trust. Result: The customer appreciated my honesty and quick resolution, and they specifically requested me for future deliveries, increasing their weekly orders by 15%.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to adapt to unexpected changes in your delivery schedule

Situation: A major road closure due to flooding meant my usual route to 8 customers was completely blocked on a Friday morning. Task: I had to find alternative routes while ensuring all deliveries were completed before weekend closure. Action: I quickly contacted my depot, rerouted using local knowledge to avoid congested diversions, and called customers to update delivery times. I also rearranged the delivery order to minimise delays. Result: I completed all 8 deliveries within 2 hours of the original schedule, and customers praised the proactive communication, with 2 mentioning it in their feedback forms.
