STAR answer examples

1Question

Tell me about a time you dealt with a difficult customer during a delivery

During a delivery to a busy restaurant, the manager complained that our previous driver had damaged their storage area door. I listened carefully to understand their concerns, then inspected the area with them. I apologised on behalf of the company and immediately contacted my supervisor to arrange a repair assessment. While waiting, I helped reorganise their delivery schedule to minimise disruption. The manager appreciated my proactive approach, and we maintained the account. This taught me that taking ownership of problems, even when not directly responsible, builds stronger customer relationships.
2Question

How do you handle working weekends and shift patterns?

In my previous role, I worked rotating shifts including weekends for 2 years. I developed a structured approach by planning my personal schedule around confirmed work patterns and maintaining consistent sleep routines regardless of shift times. I found weekend work actually beneficial as roads were quieter, making deliveries more efficient. I communicated clearly with family about my schedule and used my midweek days off productively. This experience showed me that adaptability and good planning make shift work manageable while maintaining work quality and personal wellbeing.
