Dear Hiring Manager,

Rise Technical Recruitment's Electrician vacancy within the commercial solar sector is precisely the step I have been working towards. With my NVQ Level 3 qualification and a background in commercial and industrial electrical installation, I am confident I can deliver the high standard of solar installation and maintenance work your client is known for across the South of England.

My background in commercial electrical projects has equipped me with hands-on experience in fault diagnosis, first and second fix installation, and working to BS 7671 standards on live commercial sites. I have developed a strong interest in renewable energy systems and am keen to pursue my 2391 qualification with the paid training your client provides, with a longer-term ambition to progress towards a Senior Authorised Person or Project Manager role.

STAR answer examples

1Question

Describe a time when you identified a safety risk on a commercial electrical site and explain the steps you took to resolve it.

Situation: During a routine maintenance visit to a 200kWp rooftop solar installation in Milton Keynes, I noticed that a DC isolator housing had cracked, exposing live terminals to potential water ingress. Task: As the lead electrician on site, it was my responsibility to make the installation safe and prevent any risk of arc flash or fire. Action: I immediately isolated the affected string, erected appropriate barriers, and documented the defect with photographs before notifying the site facilities manager and my line manager. I sourced a replacement isolator the same day and completed the repair within four hours. Result: The system was returned to full operation before end of day with no downtime reported to the client, and the incident was logged as a near-miss to improve our pre-visit inspection checklist.
2Question

Tell me about a project where you had to manage your own workload across multiple sites — how did you prioritise tasks?

Situation: I was assigned sole responsibility for three concurrent commercial solar commissioning projects across Northamptonshire, each at different stages of completion. Task: I needed to ensure all three reached practical completion within a two-week window to meet client handover deadlines. Action: I mapped out the critical path for each site, prioritising the project closest to energisation first. I liaised directly with the DNO to align connection dates and pre-ordered test equipment to avoid delays. I worked extended hours on two days to complete final inspection documentation. Result: All three sites were handed over on schedule, the client issued a written commendation, and I was allocated two additional projects the following month as a result.
