1Question

Tell me about a time you dealt with a difficult resident while carrying out electrical work

I was called to repair a faulty consumer unit in an elderly resident's flat who was very anxious about having strangers in her home. I took time to explain each step of the process, showed her my ID and qualifications, and worked efficiently to minimise disruption. I completed the 3-hour repair while keeping her informed throughout, and she later praised my professionalism to the housing association. This experience taught me that clear communication and empathy are just as important as technical skills in social housing work.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to solve a complex electrical problem

I encountered intermittent power loss affecting 8 flats in a social housing block. Initial testing showed normal readings, but I suspected a loose neutral connection. I systematically tested each distribution board and discovered a corroded neutral bar in the main panel causing voltage fluctuations. I isolated the supply, replaced the damaged components, and tested all circuits to 18th Edition standards. The repair took 6 hours but prevented potential fire risk and restored stable power to all 8 households.
