1Question

Tell me about a time you had to adapt quickly to a new nursery environment

When I started bank work at Little Stars Nursery, I discovered they used a different daily routine structure than my previous setting. Within my first morning, I observed their 15-child pre-school room operated with activity stations rather than group time. I quickly adapted by shadowing the lead practitioner for 30 minutes, then confidently led the creative station for 8 children. By day three, I was independently managing transitions and had learned their specific EYFS tracking system. The manager praised my adaptability and offered me regular weekly shifts.
2Question

Describe a challenging situation with a child and how you handled it

A 3-year-old boy at Sunshine Nursery was having daily meltdowns during tidy-up time, disrupting the 12-child room. I observed his behaviour patterns for two days and noticed he struggled with transitions. I implemented a visual countdown timer and gave him a special helper role collecting the puzzle pieces. Within one week, his meltdowns reduced from daily to once weekly. I documented the strategy for the permanent staff, and they adopted it nursery-wide. The child's parents reported improved behaviour at home too.
