Application advice

5 AI-generated recommendations to maximise your chances.

1

⭐ Lead your CV personal statement with your valid UK driving licence details (licence type, years held, penalty points) as this is the single non-negotiable requirement stated in the advert.

2

📊 Quantify your delivery or customer-facing experience: "Completed 25+ doorstep deliveries per shift with a 98% on-time rate" to demonstrate reliability against Tesco's time-slot focus.

3

🚐 Highlight any previous van or multi-drop driving experience explicitly, naming vehicle types and load capacities, as the role centres on safe van operation and cargo handling.

4

🤝 Include a bullet showing how you handled a difficult customer interaction — the advert specifically calls out explaining substitutions and short-dated items in a "friendly, reassuring way".

5

🎯 Mirror the advert's language around vehicle checks and cleanliness in your work history (e.g. "Conducted daily pre-drive roadworthy checks on a 3.5-tonne Luton van") to pass ATS screening for this Tesco Perth role.

Letter preview — tailored to Tesco

Dear Hiring Manager,

Tesco's reputation for putting customers first is precisely why the Customer Delivery Driver role at Perth Extra appeals to me. I hold a valid full UK driving licence with fewer than 3 penalty points and over 12 months' clean driving history, and I have direct experience in multi-drop doorstep delivery where handling substitutions and keeping customers informed was a daily requirement.

My background in customer-facing delivery roles has equipped me with the practical skills this position demands. I have consistently completed pre-drive vehicle checks, loaded vans safely to protect cargo integrity, and managed time-slot schedules across varied routes — maintaining a strong on-time delivery record even when adapting to last-minute order changes. I understand that representing Tesco at the doorstep means every interaction reflects the brand.

STAR answer examples

Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time you delivered outstanding service to a customer in a face-to-face setting.

Situation: During a busy Saturday shift at a supermarket delivery job, I arrived at an elderly customer's home to find her order had two substitutions she hadn't expected, including a different brand of medication-related dietary product. Task: I needed to resolve her concern quickly without causing distress, while keeping my remaining 11 deliveries on schedule. Action: I calmly walked her through each substitution, explained the reason, and offered a full refund on the item she was unhappy with using the handheld device on the spot. I also carried her bags to the kitchen, which wasn't required but took under two minutes. Result: She called the depot to compliment the service, and my manager shared the feedback with the whole team the following week.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to adapt quickly to an unexpected change while working independently.

Situation: Midway through a 30-drop delivery route, my sat-nav lost signal in a rural area and two consecutive addresses had incorrect postcodes on the manifest. Task: I had to locate both properties independently and still complete the full route within the scheduled four-hour window. Action: I used the customer phone numbers on the delivery notes to call ahead, confirmed directions from both customers directly, and re-sequenced my remaining 14 drops to recover 20 minutes of lost time by grouping nearby addresses. Result: I completed the full route 8 minutes inside the deadline with no failed deliveries, and both affected customers rated the interaction five stars on the post-delivery survey.
