1Question

Tell me about a time you showed compassion to someone in your care

When supporting Mrs Thompson, an 84-year-old resident with dementia who became distressed during personal care, I noticed she responded well to music from the 1950s. I started playing her favourite songs during care routines and took extra time to chat about her memories. This reduced her anxiety by 80% and she began looking forward to our sessions. The family thanked me for helping their mother feel comfortable and dignified during a difficult transition.
2Question

Describe a challenging situation with a resident and how you handled it

Mr Davies, a 78-year-old resident, refused medication for 3 days running, becoming agitated when approached. I observed he was more receptive in the morning and preferred male staff. I coordinated with the team to adjust his care schedule and spent time building rapport through conversations about his gardening interests. Within a week, he was taking medication willingly and his mood improved significantly, leading to better health outcomes.
