1Question

Describe a time when you had to prioritise multiple cleaning tasks with tight deadlines. How did you manage your workload?

At my previous yard role, I regularly faced competing demands—some drivers needed vehicles cleaned before 9 a.m. dispatch, whilst others required deep cleans for MOT inspections. I created a priority system: MOT vehicles first (highest impact), then daily dispatch vehicles, then general maintenance. I communicated my schedule to the team leader each morning so they could manage driver expectations. On one particularly busy Monday, I cleaned 12 vehicles by noon without cutting corners on safety checks. My approach reduced complaints by 30% and earned recognition from my supervisor for reliability.
2Question

Tell us about an occasion when you identified a health and safety issue in your workplace. What did you do?

I noticed that the wash bay floor was becoming slippery due to water pooling near the drain, creating a slip hazard for myself and other operatives. Rather than ignore it, I immediately reported it to my team leader and suggested installing a temporary drainage mat until the drain could be cleared. I also placed a caution sign in the area. The team leader appreciated the proactive approach and arranged for maintenance the next day. This experience taught me that safety is everyone's responsibility, and speaking up early prevents accidents and downtime.
