1Question

Tell me about a time when you had to complete urgent vehicle repairs under time pressure

A delivery van broke down during peak season with a critical gearbox fault. I immediately diagnosed the issue using electronic diagnostics, identifying a faulty solenoid. Rather than waiting 3 days for parts, I contacted 4 alternative suppliers and sourced the component within 2 hours. I completed the repair that same afternoon, allowing the vehicle back into service the next morning. This prevented £2,400 in lost delivery revenue and maintained our 99% fleet availability target during the busiest trading period.
2Question

Describe a situation where you identified a cost-saving opportunity in maintenance

I noticed our 12-vehicle van fleet was consuming excessive brake pads, costing £3,600 annually. After analysing service records, I discovered drivers weren't trained in efficient braking techniques. I proposed a driver training programme focusing on anticipation and engine braking. Following implementation, brake pad replacement dropped by 60%, saving £2,160 per year. The training cost just £480, delivering a 450% return on investment while improving vehicle safety and reducing maintenance downtime.
