1Question

Tell me about a time you dealt with a challenging behaviour in a nursery setting

During my placement at Riverside Nursery, I worked with a 4-year-old who frequently disrupted circle time by shouting and leaving the group. I observed his behaviour patterns and noticed he struggled when activities lasted longer than 8 minutes. I implemented a visual timer system and gave him a special helper role, allowing him to ring a bell when activities changed. Within 3 weeks, his disruptive incidents reduced from daily occurrences to just twice per week, and his engagement in group activities improved significantly.
2Question

Describe how you've worked as part of a team to support a child's development

At Meadowbank Nursery, I collaborated with the class teacher and SENCO to support a child with delayed speech development. We created a communication plan where I used visual aids during free play while the teacher focused on structured language activities. I documented daily observations and shared these in weekly team meetings. Over 4 months, the child's vocabulary increased from 12 to 45 recognisable words, and our coordinated approach meant consistent support across all nursery activities.
