1Question

Tell me about a time you worked with children who had different learning needs

During my volunteer work at a local youth centre, I supported 12 children aged 7-11 with varying abilities during homework club. One child struggled with dyslexia while another had ADHD. I adapted my approach by using visual aids and breaking tasks into 10-minute chunks for the ADHD child, while providing coloured overlays and extra reading time for the dyslexic child. I also paired them with supportive peers for group activities. Over 6 weeks, both children showed improved confidence and completed 90% more homework independently, with the dyslexic child's reading speed increasing noticeably.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to build rapport with a reluctant child

While volunteering at an after-school club, I encountered an 8-year-old boy who refused to participate in activities and sat alone daily. I discovered he loved football, so I spent 15 minutes each day discussing his favourite team and players. I then introduced football-themed maths games and reading activities. Within 3 weeks, he began joining group activities and even helped other children with football-related tasks. His participation increased from 20% to 85%, and his teacher noted improved classroom behaviour. Building that initial connection through his interests was key to his transformation.
