1Question

Tell me about a time you helped a SEN child overcome a learning challenge

I worked with an 8-year-old boy with autism who struggled with reading comprehension. He became frustrated and would shut down during literacy lessons. I developed a visual story mapping system using pictures and symbols that broke down stories into manageable chunks. Over 6 weeks, I worked with him for 30 minutes daily using this method. By the end of the term, his reading comprehension improved from below age-expected to age-appropriate level, and he began participating voluntarily in class discussions about books.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to manage challenging behaviour

A 7-year-old girl with ADHD was having frequent outbursts during maths lessons, disrupting the class of 28 pupils. I observed that transitions between activities triggered her anxiety. I created a visual timetable and gave her 2-minute warnings before each change. I also established a quiet corner with sensory tools where she could self-regulate. Within 3 weeks, her outbursts reduced from 8 per week to just 1, and her maths progress improved by 2 sub-levels as she could focus better on learning.
