1Question

Tell me about a time you exceeded sales targets in a retail environment

During my previous role at a sports retailer, I was tasked with achieving £8,000 monthly sales targets during a particularly challenging quarter when footfall had decreased by 15%. I took action by developing product knowledge expertise, spending extra time learning about technical features of running shoes and outdoor equipment. I also implemented a consultative selling approach, spending more time understanding customer needs rather than pushing products. As a result, I achieved £9,200 in sales that month, exceeding my target by 15% and ranking as the top performer in our 6-person team. This experience taught me that product expertise and genuine customer focus drive sustainable sales success.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to learn about products quickly to help customers

When I started at an electronics retailer, I had limited knowledge about gaming equipment but was immediately assigned to the gaming section during the busy Christmas period. The situation required me to quickly understand complex product specifications and customer gaming preferences. I took action by studying product manuals during breaks, shadowing experienced colleagues for 3 days, and creating personal reference cards with key product features and comparisons. Within 2 weeks, I was confidently advising customers on gaming setups worth £800-1,500. The result was that I achieved 95% customer satisfaction scores and generated £18,000 in gaming sales during my first month, proving that dedication to learning can quickly translate into customer trust and sales success.
